VACCINES The Novo Nordisk Foundation Initiative for Vaccines and Immunity is pleased to welcome Joanna Rejman as Leader of NIVI Research Center’s Formulation Sciences and Devices group.

Joanna Rejman.
Joanna Rejman has a long career within the pharmaceutical industry (Germany and Sweden) as well as universities in the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, and Italy.

Professor Joanna Rejman has joined NIVI Research Center as the first Group Leader. In this role, she will be responsible for building up and leading the newly established Formulation Sciences and Devices group.

Joanna Rejman has extensive experience in leading drug development and platform technology teams both in academia and industry. At NIVI Research Center she will lead a team dedicated to developing innovative methods aiming at ensuring safe and effective delivery of the active agent of potential vaccines. Given NIVIs focused efforts on selected number of diseases and diverse vaccine platforms, this task requires highly specialized and tailored approach.

We need to tailor our approach to each modality and pathogen. Airway delivery requires the utmost safety. Though the airways are easily accessible, they are selective about what they allow in, so to speak. Therefore, it is challenging to target specific cells in the airways effectively” she explains.

Joanna Rejman has a long career within the pharmaceutical industry (Germany and Sweden) as well as universities in the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, and Italy. Now based in Denmark, she is excited about working at University of Copenhagen, where NIVI Research Center is anchored in the Department of Immunology and Microbiology (ISIM) with the support of funding from The Novo Nordisk Foundation:

“NIVI is a perfect blend of academia and industry. Typically, one needs to choose between these two, here I am fortunate to experience the best of both worlds. I have my academic freedom, but with a clear goal to develop a treatment. What makes it even better is the incredible team around me. Being a part of the NIVI Research Center, anchored in ISIM, gives me access to world-class facilities and experts in the field. I am looking forward to engaging in scientific exchange with colleagues across the faculty and beyond,” says Joanna Rejman.
